Whether you’re an elite athlete or an average Joe just wanting to stay in shape, everyone has had their fair share of trouble when it comes to working out.  Even though it is, often described as a love/hate relationship, there is no argument against the importance of having an active lifestyle.  Dr. John J. Ratey, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, constructed a study that showed daily exercise does in fact boost brain functionality.

This has many school districts weighing the option of providing daily physical education to all their students but, currently only a mere 20% of all schools provide physical education.  This had caused the overweight and obesity rate for students from the age of 3-19 to rise from 8% to 31.9% in the last 30 years, meaning that nearly 1 in every 3 students is either overweight or obese.  The trend does not get any better when it comes to the adults in the US: over 2 out of every 3 adults are either overweight or obese.  This is a dangerous path we have paved for generations to come and requires an immediate solution.

A successful solution has been ‘small group training’ which creates an energetic and enjoyable atmosphere.  Researchers at Oxford’s Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology have studied how the body reacts differently when participants in various group workouts.  They came to the  conclusion that participates experienced a higher level of endorphins, chemicals produced by your brain which results a higher pain threshold, allowing you to workout for a longer period of time and at a higher intensity.  This results in quicker weight loss while having an enjoyable workout regimen.
