A new generation of digital gadgets may soon be as essential for fitness as sneakers.

That was the word from Ernie Medina, Jr., DrPH, a preventive care specialist from Redlands, CA who uses interactive video games—“exergames”—and digital devices to monitor and motivate his sedentary patients.
